Hi iapatel2021

Thank you for posting your question.

This is a really common pattern in children. They have to learn a lot over a short period of time. Although your son may have mastered arithmetic to be able to understand harder maths concepts, it is likely that as he progressed through school, less focus on the basic arithmetic skills has meant that these skills have been lost. I would recommend that he spends time on mulitplication tables, number bonds to 10, 20 and 100. I would recommend repetition of the basic 4 operations, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division until he is able to answer without hestiation. There are online games aimed at 6 and 7 year olds which can make learning these again, fun.

I hope this helps?
