I think that it is really easy to not bother with understanding how the technology around us works or to have very little understanding of how all this digital information is created. The first step is necessity. If your daughter comes to you or her dad with laptop issues, try to get her to troubleshoot herself. There may be varying degrees of support you will need to give her based on her understanding level, interest and push back because you are asking her take on a new responsibility.
This is the first step in having a healthy relationship with the environment that you use every day. This alone may spark some interest. The next step is to link the idea of coding or creating with other interests. How could her hobbies or interests be enhanced by coding?
For example, my older daugher loves puzzles and reading. This book series made quite an impression on her.
