hi my daughter is really struggling with maths, especially her times tables, any suggestions?

she is in year 3, she is learning the 3s and 4s but still has trouble with the 2s. thanks

Hi Ahmed. We had the same with our daughter. It turns out she is dyslexic. She remembers the numbers for a short period of time and then its as if we haven't ever learnt them. It can be quite frustrating for her (and us). We have now got strategies so that she can always recall the tables without knowing them off by heart, for example the finger method for the 9 times table and counting up in 5s for the 5 times. Maybe something to consider?

Hi ahmed, your daughter not liking maths and being behind are probably linked. People usually think that the not liking maths comes first and then children fall behind, but to be honest I have seen through various children and my own experiences growing up that all children love to learn. It is when they find things difficult that they internalise the idea that they aren't good at something so it means they can't do it and avoid it. I was like this for many years, It is really. important for me to make sure my children dont have the same reactions as i did. Well done for reaching out to find solutions for your daughter. I don't have any specific practical advice (my maths never did pick up!) but I think that trying to address issues is realy key. Good LUCK!
