My daughter has dyslexia and works very hard to compensate, however she has just started secondary school and is starting to meltdown over all the text she is supposed to read and write. It just doesn't seem fair that she is having to struggle so much. Does anyone with older kids with dyslexia figure out how to help at secondary school?

Thanks

J

Hi J

I've heard about fonts that help people with Dyslexia to read more easily. My niece uses some. This is the link to the font she likes. https://opendyslexic.org  Have you tried to download them and see if you can change the font of text your daughter has to read on the screen?

good luck!

Dear JayD

Thanks for posting your question.

We’ve been speaking to lots of parents with Dyslexia recently and they have told us about the great success their children have had learning how to touch type. Has this been something that you have looked at for your daughter? It can help with allowing people to write down their thoughts as they come and then edit the work as needed. There are many touch typing courses online for low cost or I'm sure you could find a free tutorial online that will help.

All she needs is a laptop or PC with keyboard. To help with reading we have been recommended different computer readers. Google has an add-on which is excellent as lots of schools use google classroom.

Could you find out what your daughter’s school uses and report back so we can give you some more recommendations?

I hope this helps?
